L-50 would be the nominal model name for this guitar, but it's really got all the important attributes of an L-4, most notably both a solid spruce top and a solid two-piece maple back. Quite unusual for its type, as it has a large, maple neck with no truss rod, typical of many wartime Gibson flat tops but rarely seen on their archtops. Quite a handful, perfect for those of you who love the old big-neck Gibsons. Also oddly, has a mother-of-pearl logo inlaid in the peghead instead of a decal, as in the 1930's guitars. Quite clean looking and no cracks anywhere; does show a re-gluing of the back center seam, done long ago and very solidly. Bridge, tuners, and pickguard appear to be from the 1950's; tailpiece is original. Neck is nice and straight, frets are nice and clean, finish is all original and nice and clean; has a big bright tone. Overall, a really nice, really solid carved top Gibson jazz guitar at a bargain price of only $1995 w/hsc.
